Epoxy FRP pressure pipe generally refers to a composite pipe made with epoxy resin as the matrix and glass fiber as the reinforcement, manufactured through processes such as winding. It is specifically designed to withstand internal pressure.
Through scientific winding design, the pipe's hoop and axial strength can be precisely controlled to meet the requirements of different pressure levels. Operating pressures typically range from a few kilograms to tens of kilograms.
Main Applications
Petrochemical
Oilfield water injection pipes, crude oil pipelines, chemical process pipelines, and corrosive media transportation.
Municipal Water Supply and Drainage
Municipal water supply mains, recycled water reuse pipelines, and pressure sewage pipes.
Power Industry
Circulating cooling water pipelines, ash transfer pipelines, and desulfurization system slurry pipelines.
Marine Engineering
Desalination plant pipelines, ship pipelines, and offshore platform water pipes.
Mining
Slurry transfer pipelines, tailings transfer pipelines, and ventilation ducts.
Food and Brewing
Due to its smooth, scale-resistant interior, it is also used for process piping in the food and beer industries.
Specifications and Standards
Diameter Range: Typically from DN25 to DN4000 or even larger.
Pressure Ratings: Commonly available are PN0.6, PN1.0, PN1.6, PN2.5, and PN4.0 MPa, with higher pressures available upon request.
Applicable Standards: Chinese standards include GB/T 21238 "Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic Sand-Filled Pipe" and JC/T 695 "Centrifugally Cast Glass Fiber Reinforced Unsaturated Polyester Resin Sand-Filled Pipe." (Note: These standards primarily apply to polyester pipes, but mechanical property requirements for epoxy pipes may refer to these standards. Corrosion resistance requirements must be agreed upon separately.)
International/Foreign Standards: ASTM D2996 (Centrifugal Casting), ASTM D2997 (Filament Winding), AWWA C950, etc.
Comparison with Other Types of Fiberglass Pipes
| Features | Epoxy Fiberglass Pressure Pipe | Unsaturated Polyester (UP) Fiberglass Pipe | Vinyl Ester (VE) Fiberglass Pipe |
| Corrosion Resistance | Excellent, especially for alkaline media and organic solvents | Good, but slightly inferior to alkaline media and some solvents | Excellent, best overall corrosion resistance, especially for strong acids and high temperatures |
| Heat Resistance | Medium (approximately 80-110°C) | Lower (approximately 60-80°C) | Higher (approximately 100-120°C) |
| Mechanical Strength | High, strong adhesion | Good | Very high, extremely strong adhesion |
| Cost | Higher | Lowest | Highest |
| Main Applications | Chemical, High-Demand Water Supply, Power | Municipal Water Supply and Drainage, Cooling Water, General Corrosive Environments | Harsh Chemical and Metallurgical Applications |
Epoxy resin pipes are an upgrade to unsaturated polyester pipes in terms of corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and overall performance, but they are also more expensive. For the most demanding corrosive environments, vinyl ester pipes with better performance and higher prices are preferred.
